Turned On...

2007-08-03

Window display at Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Avenue at 58th Street. Few people know this, but I went to school back in 1991 to learn how to do neon tube bending. I completed the course at the top of the class, but the lagging economy at the time meant there were few if any jobs in the field. I went on to other things, and never returned to the fire. Now I just admire good work when I see it. Someday, maybe someday.

(Update: June, 2010) Dear Reader, Life has gotten to be very very busy lately (in a good way) so to retain quality, I have decided to cut back to just a few images a week until September. Meanwhile, I will continue to post on iPhoneography NYC.

  • Hey Devyn,

Looks like you're doing well in your new city! I finally managed to put up some pics on my website...it's no photoblog, but it'll have to do for now. Check it out.

  • This is such a nice shot.
It's har to tell the size of it though.
Cool that you actually master the craft of neon tube bending.

  • Thanks everybody... To answer your question about the size of this neon "light bulb", I would estimate it to be about two feet tall (2/3 meter).

  • Cool capture! I'm always drawn to artistic neons. My brother-in-law took a course and made a few neons.
